Yukon’s Plant Festival
Volunteer’s Information Page
Thank you for being a volunteer and helping us making the first Yukon’s Plant Festival happen!
Please read on for more information about the venue, schedule, and logistics.
Please note that volunteers do not require a ticket, we are grateful to have you and hope for you to be able to enjoy the day spent with other plant people.
Volunteer Schedule
Each volunteer is assigned their main station for the day and some are needed to help out in other stations (see color coding) to cover other volunteer’s breaks. Everyone will have a lunch break (“LUNCH”) and a break to participate in one of the activities of the day (“BREAK”). Please make sure to sign yourself up for the activity of your choice when you arrive in the morning.
The nine different activities will take place over three time slots, with three activities occurring during each time slot. Presentations and workshops will run in different locations on the festival grounds (Summer Kitchen, Main Tent) and people will meet up at the Info Tent before heading out to the neighboring trails for plant walks (see below for a site map).
There will be a total of 60 persons at the festival this year, so a limited but specific crowd of plant enthusiasts. Please come between 9 am and 10 am to have time to familiarize yourself with the festival grounds and your tasks for the day. If you like, you may come on Friday evening and/or stay on Saturday overnight, as there are camping spots on the property.
We invite presenters, vendors and festival crew to stick around after the end of the activities to gather and celebrate. Join us and bring some food and drinks to share! If you want to enjoy the venue a little longer, you are also invited to stay overnight and camp on site, with your tent or camper.
Make sure to visit the Festival Page, where you can find the full day’s schedule, presenters bios, venue details, and FAQs.
Venue
The festival will be held at the Herbal Hearth, an off-grid home and venue located an hour south of Whitehorse in Mount Lorne, at km 22.7 Annie Lake Road. Cell phone reception is limited in the area, so make sure you save the directions below. Plan to arrive between 9 am and 10 am so that you can be introduced to the festival grounds and your specific tasks for the day, before participants arrive and activities begin.
Though cell phone reception is limited, wifi will be available on festival grounds.
All of the activities will be held outdoors, on and around the private property, so we invite you to bring lots of layers for changing weather! And be sure to bring good foot wear for the plant walks.
Dogs are not allowed on the property, so make sure to leave your animal friend at home. There will be two outhouses on site for your use. Herbal refreshments will be provided and lunch will be available for purchase from Chickadee Wagon Farm Food Truck if you haven't packed food! We invite you to bring your own cutlery and travel mugs to help reduce waste.
Directions from the Alaska Highway:
1. Turn on the South Klondike Highway and travel towards Carcross for 15 km.
2. Turn right onto the Annie Lake Rd and travel 22.7 km.
3. When you arrive at The Far Side Rd turn left onto the road and continue down the rest of the way (1.5 km) following the festival signs.
